What does Capability Jane actually do? And why should I become a member?
Capability Jane is an organisation that provides recruitment services, coaching, training, events and support for experienced, previously professional women looking to return to work after a career break; or for people wanting to transition to a more flexible working arrangement.

We specialise in finding skilled jobs in your local area that are flexible i.e. part-time, flexible hours, term-time, job-sharing, remote working, or contract/project work . We have an experienced team of recruitment specialists who work to find jobs that utilises your skills and experience and which accommodate your family commitments.

We work with employers across the South East, large and small, who recognise the value of professional women returners and flexible working. We actively network in the business community promoting the quality and credentials of our members and the benefits of flexible working.

We have also teamed up with leading training and coaching experts plus local colleges to develop a number of back-to-work programmes and tools specifically aimed at experienced professional women returning to work after a career break.

Through networking events, workshops and forums you will have the opportunity to meet discuss and share information with other women like you.

Please join our network now or contact us about the options available to you.

Do I need to pay to become a member?
Absolutely not. Our job finding service is free.

In terms of some of your back to work programmes and event the government does not offer subsidies for training or coaching for qualified women returners in all areas of the country (one of our soap box rants!).

So, if you choose to take advantage of our courses, workshops, coaching or events then there will be an additional charge. However, we passionately believe that you should have access to these and so have subsidised the cost as much as we possibly can ourselves.

What is a typical Capability Jane member profile?
The majority of our members in our network are highly capable women with many years of prior working experience. In most cases they have taken an extended period of time out from their career to have children and are now looking to get back into the workplace.

However, there are also members who have been working full time but who are now looking for a better work-life balance and so want to a job that is local and allows them more flexibility.

Most of our Capability Jane members have at least 7-10+ years of experience working in a business or professional services environment. Some have held senior positions and managed teams of people. Others have been specialists in their field; or have held hands on operational positions - often within large corporations.

Our members are armed with experience from a wide variety of disciplines and industry sectors from sales and marketing, PR, HR, event management and design. Other have been practicing lawyers, accountants, management consultants, project managers, executive assistants, to name but a few.

The one thing that unites them all is that they are all highly capable individuals with a wealth of business and life skills who are now looking for employment which enables the right work-life balance, utilises their skills and provides a respectable income.

If this sounds like you please register with us now.

I know I had a great career in a previous life but that was a while ago, but I really don’t feel very confident now…
We recognise that making the transition from motherhood back to work is not always easy. No matter what your previous level of experience, a significant proportion of returning professional women are held back by a lack of confidence.

You are not alone. It really is quite surprising how some of the most talented, confident, previously high-flying professional women lack the confidence in their renewed ability in business once they have taken time out to have children.

But that’s just it! It’s all about confidence not ability.

Often we find that lack of confidence stems from a fear of the unknown: what has changed since the last time you worked? How can you balance work and life successfully? Have you forgotten the skills you once had? How can you apply the recent skills you have developed to a new job? Can you live up to an employer’s expectations?

At Capability Jane we are passionate about supporting you through this. We have developed a number of back-to-work programs and tools that will help you gain renewed confidence and clarity for your next career direction.

What we all know at Capability Jane is that once you are back in the workplace it doesn’t take you long to get your old self back, before no time you will be firing on all cylinders!

I have been out of the workplace for a number of years, I am not sure that I still have the business skills I once did, I feel out of touch...
You may well be surprised by how little things may have changed, but even if they have we can help update you. We have teamed up with a number of local colleges in your area to provide courses for Capability Jane members which focus on updating specific business skills such as IT, presentation skills, etc.

What a lot of our members realise is that the skills they developed in their earlier career are not actually lost they have merely been channelled in other directions. A great number of former-career mothers have been actively using their skills and developing new ones in a wide variety of voluntary, charitable or school related activities for example.
